Mrs. Melanie Lofaro, Elementary Associate Principal
August 2018
Dear Sanfordville Families,
Everyone at Sanfordville Elementary School is so excited for the 2018-2019 school year! As we welcome our families back to school, we hope this summer has been fun, refreshing, and filled with learning experiences. Please encourage your child to write a letter to me sharing all about their summer adventures. They can mail it, email it, drop it off, or bring it in on the first day of school. I look forward to reading all of the letters!
I am pleased to welcome Mrs. Melanie Lofaro as our new Elementary Associate Principal as well as several new teachers to Sanfordville. We are quite impressed with the knowledge and experience they each will bring to our Sanfordville family.
This summer at Sanfordville has been quite busy. Our summer custodians, maintenance crew, and office staff have worked hard to get the building, grounds, and supplies ready and organized for the new school year. All our teams have done a fine job as the building looks beautiful. The improvements and additions have created an even better environment for our students. For instance, our students and teachers will love learning in our new outdoor classroom.
This school year our focus will remain on curriculum, instruction, and literacy. Our teachers have received professional development in these areas throughout the entire summer and will continue into the new year. Our balanced literacy model continues to develop as our teachers integrate a solid Writers’ Workshop along with Readers’ Workshop strategies such as daily read-alouds, guided-reading, word study, small group instruction, and book clubs. Earlier in August I was fortunate to attend training workshops with literacy guru, Irene Fountas to explore how effective teaching, authentic assessment, coaching and supervision can improve students’ reading and writing performance.
A strong partnership between our students, their families, and our staff is supported and nurtured here at Sanfordville. There are many opportunities for our families to get involved in their child’s learning. Please visit our website for up-to-date information at www.warwickvalleyschools.com, attend our school and PTA sponsored events, volunteer in the classrooms, read with your child every day, and continue to demonstrate a positive and supportive attitude toward education and our school.
Maintaining a safe and secure environment in our building is very important and a task we take very seriously. You will find a full-time police officer in our building throughout the school day and other improvements to create an even safer school setting. When visiting Sanfordville, please respect our procedures as we strive to create the safest learning environment possible for our students, staff, and visitors.
Please enjoy the rest of your summer. We look forward to seeing our Sanfordville Bears!
