Halloween is a fun and exciting time for children. Make-believe, pretend and dress-up as their favorite super heroes, storybook characters or princesses create memories to treasure forever. With this in mind, on Tuesday, October 31st, students wishing to wear child-friendly costumes to school may do so. Wearing a costume is optional and certainly not required.
In order to maintain the positive and fun spirit of this day, those students who choose to participate need to have P.A.W.S. behavior and adhere to the following guidelines:
- In general, all costumes are to be in “good taste” and should not be offensive in nature, design, or intent.
- Students are not to dress up as or mock another student or faculty member.
- Costumes are not to celebrate or feature inappropriate themes or characters.
- Students should refrain from bringing in props, as they can get lost through the course of the day.
- Students should NOT bring in plastic swords, guns, wands, sticks or any other fake or real weapon. Such items will be taken away immediately.
- Students should not wear masks or any items that will impede their vision or ability to write.
- Please refrain from using colored hair spray and face paint, as it may cause the scalp and/or skin to itch during the course of the day. Fake blood and/or “guts” are inappropriate for elementary school.
- Footwear should be appropriate and safe to wear on and off of the bus, during recess and for physical education class.
*Students should come to school dressed in their costumes. Their costumes should be comfortable and not interfere with the students’ responsibilities and safety. It is recommended that students wear regular clothes under their costumes, just in case. Students not adhering to the above guidelines will be required to remove their costume. Parent or guardian contact may be made if necessary.
Please remember, students will continue to enjoy our PTA’s awesome Spooktacular event on that day. Any parents volunteering on that day, who intend on taking their children home with them, are reminded to send in a note to the office notifying us of their dismissal plans.
***The safety of our students is always our number one priority! With that said, please keep in mind that only adults who have previously signed-up and have been confirmed as a PTA volunteer or a classroom celebration volunteer will be permitted in the building on Halloween. Volunteer lists will be monitored at the front door and only those on the list will be allowed into the classrooms and into the PTA event. With the large number of adults in the building, many in costume, we need to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff.
Thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation. We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Halloween!
